New York Fashion Week(NYFW) is here! This month, NYFW is going to be from February 11th-18th. Luckily, my university gave us a 10-day break and it falls at the same time of the week-long event(blessed).

I arrived in New York City on Friday February 12th. I wanted to go to some shows that night but I was too tired. I spend the night in, looking at my closet and choosing potential looks.

My first day began on Saturday ; I had looked at the weekend's weather previously: it predicted that temperatures would be as low as 1 degree Fahrenheit, which is about -17 celsius. With that in mind, I chose my outfit and began my day.

The shows:

Day one started extremely early because shows were around 9 and 10 am. The first one was the highly anticipated Lacoste Show, rumored to have Gigi Hadid walking. Unfortunately, Gigi was not present as she was probably modeling for another one at the same time. However, international babes such as the Dominican beauty Lineisy Monteiro and French-Ivorian sweetheart Aya Jones walked.

Afterwards, all the guests and models exited the venue. As you can imagine, it was hectic. Photographers and news reporters everywhere. Amidst all the madness, I managed to meet Aya. I talked to her for a bit, and we took a selfie, yay!

In terms of the shows, the rest went like the Lacoste one. Upon arrivals( and exits) at the venues, photographers would swarm towards everyone (celebrities and non-celebrities) to take street-style pictures of the fabulous outfits. It's always nice because afterwards you get to see wonderful body and detail shots of everyone around the city.

All in all, day one was great. The only bad thing about it was the weather. It was extremely cold and the wind didn't help either. New Yorkers aren't used to this, the temperatures were unusual ; it felt like I was back in Canada haha. However, for the love of fashion, we all braced the cold and went from venue to venue(totally worth it honestly).

My tomboy look:

My set of clothes was carefully crafted and layered in a way which would keep me warm, comfortable and stylish. My outfit was atypical from my usual looks. I opted for the "tomboy" theme by pairing a button-up with a sweater, topped with a blazer. Finally, I accessorized with clear-frame specs.

Turtlenecks...Thanks to Drake

You've probably seen the "6 God" aka Drake's newest video for his infamous bop "Hotline Bling". If not, go watch it, I guarantee you'll be entertained : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxpDa-c-4Mc It's basically Drake awkwardly dancing so naturally, it's a super cute video haha.

Now, this might be a weird confession but I sometimes get style inspirations/creative ideas from visual pieces. You'd be surprised at how much thought goes into the artists' looks. I find myself to be much more observant when I watch music videos now, because my eye is instantly drawn to the different outfits (style blogger problems).

The hotline bling reinforced the confirmation that turtlenecks are indeed, super in right now, often exhibited through dresses, crop tops, and sweaters. Because there are so many ways to wear a turtleneck, it's easy to find one that best suits your style. For example, I love crop tops so naturally, I decided to join this trend by experimenting with them. My recent obsession is this burgundy piece I'm wearing in the pictures:

The turtleneck itself is made of stretchy and soft material. However, what I like the most about it is the color! It's great for the fall, and the color oozes sophistication.

Apart from the turtleneck, my look generally revolved around the business-casual trend, which I noticed was apparent during fashion week. The easiest way to do this is to wear pieces you think are more sophisticated and add any type of sneaker to create a discrepancy. The turtleneck + blazer + trousers combination is just one out of many. Again, find a style that you like and experiment with it :).

In terms of shooting, my photographer and I decided to be a little bit more creative. You'll probably notice that each picture is different in terms of contrast, lighting, etc, since we played around with these elements a bit more:

There are endless reasons as to why black is one of the best colors to incorporate into your style. If you've read my previous posts, then you'll know that I'm a big fan of this dark tone. The upcoming winter is a great excuse for me too, because I won't have to explain to anyone why I'm wearing the color all the time (I had a lot of that during the summer haha). Before I talk about my outfit, I'm going to give you a couple of reasons as to why black is the best color!

1) Matching is not a problem

Wearing black is probably one of the easiest things to do when it comes to fashion because you never have to worry about matching! Yes, the color has different 'shades' but they all pretty much resemble each other. And, if you want to wear a piece of black clothing with another color, you won't have to worry about matching too because black goes with everything!

2) It's flattering and chic

Many have said that black is flattering. I totally agree! It can definitely accentuate your figure. It's also very chic so if you want to appear sophisticated, you know what to do.

3)It makes a statement

If you want to go bold, then black is the color for you. I find it just oozes confidence and strength when incorporated into your look.

4) It's extremely versatile

You can find any type of fabric in this color. Whether it be suede, silk, or velvet, don't worry, you'll find it in black.

And finally...

5) It will never go out of style.

Yep, the "all black" trend has been around for long, and I don't think it's going anywhere!

After reading that, I'm sure you've guessed what my look for this post is going to be like. Yep, all black everything. Black top, black pants, black shoes.

My look consisted of an open-back bodysuit, high-waisted jeans, a leather jacket and patent booties.
The favorite part of my outfit is definitely my shoes. I saw them at Zara ; however, they didn't have my size(having huge feet can be annoying sometimes..) so I ordered them online. I kid you not, the moment I got the email that my order was delivered", I ran to my door. I find they are super unique; the best part about them is the ombré heel which is absolutely gorgeous. They're also extremely similar to the Ankle Patent Booties from Diorhttp://www.dior.com/couture/en_us/womens-fashion/shoes/boots-and-ankle-boots/black-patent-calfskin-ankle-boot-and-heel-with-transparent-ink-spill-effect-10-cm-11-21113 which were shown at their Winter 2015 Catwalk Show.

So as you may know, these past few weeks have been all about Fashion Week(FW). It started with New York, London, then Milan and right now Paris Fashion Week is happening. Unfortunately, I can't be there to look at the great collections and street styles but thanks to Instagram, Tumblr and online magazines, I'm keeping up!

Some of you may not know this about me, but I'm a very observant person. I guess this helped me quite a bit during NYFW because I immediately noticed certain trends that kept recurring (whether I saw them in person or on social media). This is where the Stan Smiths(http://www.adidas.ca/en/mens-stan-smith-shoes/B24364.html) come in. Many individuals have been spotted wearing these Adidas shoes and it's going global. Whether you're in New York or Paris, you're bound to see someone wearing these sneakers.

You see, right now, there is a certain style which combines chic pieces with this sporty footwear and I absolutely love it. Yes, it has somewhat always been around but it's becoming a major thing in the industry. Of course, Celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been following this type of look. To get an idea of the trend, you can look at the pictures below:

Ok, see what I mean? Before the Stan Smith's re-made(our parents used to wear these tennis shoes!) their way into the fashion world, outfits like Gigi and Kendall's were generally worn with heels or flats. It therefore seems as though heels are being traded in for comfortable sneakers. Personally, this is allowing me to experiment with my different pieces of clothing and my Adidas sneakers.

As you can see, I kept my look fairly simple. I wore a printed pencil skirt with a sweater(winter is coming), the sneakers, and a turquoise clutch bag.
